I became a brony back in the last half of 2011. I'm a bit shy, but I'm willing to chat when I'm offered.
My favorites are subject to change.
Favorite unicorn - The Great and Powerful Trixie : I love her boasting and how she dealt with the neighsayers. Also, blue is one of my favorite colors, if not the top one.
Favorite earth pony - Diamond Tiara : She's such an awesome, mean, spoiled brat. Diamond Tiara is definitely the most important pony in Call of the Cutie, because without her bullying, the episode would of had no point and the Cutie Mark Crusaders would cease to exist.
Favorite pegasus - Flitter: She's pretty and I like her bow.<br
Favorite alicorn - Celestia : Used to be Luna, but then I remembered that it was Celestia who got me into the brony fandom. She's an elegant and beautiful ruler who cares about the well-being of her subjects.
Favorite Cutie Mark Crusader - Apple Bloom : It used to be Scootaloo, but now it's Apple Bloom. She's adorable and smart.
Favorite male - Spike : He's very entertaining and his crush on Rarity is adorable.
Favorite villains - Queen Chrysalis and Diamond Tiara: Chrysalis is both sadistic and sympathetic and happens to look creepy and pretty at the same time. I already explained why I like Diamond Tiara.

I didn't say that all of them are bad. Just that I think that is one reason why it's easy to be cynical.
In fact, some of them such as some people happening to be luckier are very good aesops.

The previous shows did have some darker tones as well. In the first series, the ponies promised to teach a witch good magic, but they only did it in order to trap her in a net. Not to mention that the...
Gilda's a pretty neat character. I don't like Fluttershy that much because of how extremely timid and frail she is and this is coming from an introvert. I really don't feel much of anything when Gilda...
I'll wait until I hear if it's good or bad or mediocre. If it's one of the latter two, I'll dismiss it as non-canon.
